Flores, Oswaldo Martinez

Originally from the Xhidza Indigenous People (Zapoteco), from the Community of Santa María Yaviche, in the Sierra Juárez de Oaxaca, in the Mexican Southwest. He was born in 1977. He is the founder of different organizations, including the Fundación de Santa María Para la Promoción Indígena y Agroforestal A. C. [Santa Maria Foundation for Indigenous and Agroforestry Promotion] y Telecomunicaciones Indígenas Comunitarias A. C. Indigenous Community Telecommunications]. He is also the founder of two community radio stations Aire Zapoteco and Radio Maiz [Zapoteco Air and Corn Radio]. He is also an autonomous community cellular telephony experimenter. Oswaldo has been involved in the foundation of several educational institutions. In 2002, he founded the first Autonomous Community School in Santa María. In 2010, he founded a Comprehensive Community Baccalaureate, and, in 2020, the Autonomous Communal University of Oaxaca/UniXhidza. He has received the 2005 National Indigenous Youth Award in the area of Education and Community Development.
