Writing Ground

The Writing Ground is a weekly space at the Abya Yala Pluriversity dedicated to nurturing projects that take shape through writing. Amid the rush of daily life, the pressures of work, and many other urgent demands, it can be difficult to focus on our writings as much as we would like. To address this, the initiative sets aside a time in our schedules when we can be fully engaged with our writing needs – a moment for our ourselves.

In this space, there are no rules about what kind of writing must be done: each participant is free to choose which of their tasks needs the most attention. While we focus on our own projects, we also remain together, in a space of common kindness and support. For some, this meeting is a moment that can be dedicated to academic projects, such as dissertations, grant applications, book chapters, articles, etc. For others, it is a time to explore more creative practices, like poetry or personal and community narratives. Writing may also take shape through drawing, painting, composing, embroidering, gardening, and many other forms. All languages are valued and enjoyed.

We meet every Monday morning. People from different places and territories in Abya Yala (the Americas) gather online and write. Our sessions usually consist of three 50-minute writing cycles, though this can vary. The Writing Ground is open to anyone. Our current working languages are Portuguese, Spanish, and English.

Within this shared ground, many projects have already taken root, grown, and flourished. Please be in touch if you want to join us.
