Cuia Maré is a space for Afro-Indigenous and countercolonial dialogue rooted in the territories and communities of Maré, in Rio de Janeiro. Bringing together community members, researchers, educators, and knowledge holders, the gathering centers Black, Indigenous, and peripheral voices and epistemologies, creating opportunities to exchange knowledge, engage with the territory, and reflect collectively on identity, memory, resistance, and bem viver.
Cuia Maré is shaped by the people, communities, and organizations that produce and sustain knowledge within the territory, with activities connected to spaces including Casa Preta da Maré and Uniperiferias. Through walking tours, conversation circles, cultural exchanges, and encounters with local histories and struggles, the Cuia strengthens connections between community-based knowledge and academic spaces while challenging epistemic erasures and recognizing the peripheries as spaces of knowledge production, with the support of the Abya Yala Pluriversity.
