Cuia Manaus is an ongoing series of anticolonial gatherings in the Brazilian Amazon that began in 2024, creating spaces for learning, listening, dialogue, and knowledge exchange among Amazonian women. The gatherings bring together Indigenous, Black, riverside, urban, and other women and community members to share experiences, strengthen relationships, and engage with forms of knowledge rooted in Amazonian territories, cultures, and ways of life.
Cuia Manaus is led by local women, educators, community leaders, and partner organizations, including the Outreach Initiative – Communication, Nature, and Citizenship in the Amazon, Indigenous Teacher Education Program (Federal University of Amazonas – UFAM), Associação das Mulheres Indígenas do Alto Rio Negro (AMARN) [Association of Indigenous Women of the Upper Rio Negro], and Frente Amazônica de Mobilização em Defesa dos Direitos Indígenas (FAMDDI) [Amazonian Front for Mobilization in Defense of Indigenous Rights], with the support of the Abya Yala Pluriversity. Together, these collaborations create spaces for collective reflection, care, knowledge exchange, and countercolonial practices across Amazonian communities.
