Coelho, Camila Barros

Camila Barros Coelho is a PhD candidate in Cultural Anthropology at Purdue University, originally from the Brazilian Amazon. Her research examines how Indigenous communities engage, negotiate, and reshape digital infrastructures, with particular attention to internet connectivity, media practices, governance, and territorial life among the Mẽbêngôkre-Kayapó.

With a background in journalism, anthropology, and digital communication, her work sits at the intersection of digital anthropology, Indigenous media studies, infrastructure studies, and decolonial approaches to technology. She is particularly interested in media sovereignty, digital inequality, technological colonialism, and the social life of internet infrastructures.

Beyond research, Camila works at the intersection of scholarship and public engagement through communications and digital strategy. She currently serves as Social Media Coordinator for the Society for the Anthropology of Lowland South America (SALSA) and is a Climate Justice Advocate with Latinas por el Clima.
